Health insurers can jump your wagon when you need them most

"I am a 57-year-old woman with stage 4 breast cancer which has metastasized to my bone in the hip area," said Mary Magwire of Millersville, Penn. "I had 15 radiation treatments and afterward suffered a very painful fracture in the same area. In testing for the source of the pain, the doctor found more lesions of cancer below the bone."
"I spent a precious eight months of my life fighting my insurance company to approve me getting into a vaccine study for metastasized breast cancer at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, where I am being treated. I appealed and was turned down three times, before we decided to scrape pleading with them and selling a structured settlement annuity we had save to pay to pay for the treatment. This incident has made us even more wary of the health insurer as the just your wagon when you need them most.

Invalid health cover land lone child in debt

“I was promised lifetime insurance by my employer (USA Today).  In May, my employer farmed out billing to Aetna and refused to take my check,” said Cothlin Garison, California. “Aetna had no record of me. The only informed person I talked to said that Aetna only did my employer's COBRA account.”
Many Americans must navigate COBRA benefit rules and regulations following job losses or retirement. COBRA benefits allow former employer-based group health insurance coverage to be retained for several months following job separation. But the benefits are expensive as the employer no longer pays any portion of the premium, and it can also be very difficult to keep coverage in force, as Colane soon found out.
As luck would have it she fell ill during that period, with no health cover there were no options to her since she was a lone child and she had to resort to selling part of her structural settlements payment to pay for medical expenses that had piled on her. Thanks to the quick processing from the company she was able to pay the bills and with the remaining money pay the pending mortgage of her home.

Despite me being a nurse the bills still remain high

“My husband is a physician – who, by the way, has never missed a day of work – and is also on dialysis for a failed kidney transplant. I'm a nurse, and have been doing his home dialysis for the past year,” said Margaret Pliger of Alabama. Despite the care I provide my husband at home the bills just keep getting higher and last year I had to get settlement quotes for an annuity we had saved. The ability to sell part of the annuity helped us invest some money in other investments that helped increased the income we received.
